We have become experts in a few sidelines in the course of our work. Some
of these are listed below.
Document Format Conversion
We're very good at converting large document suites from one word-processing
or desktop publishing format to another. For example, we have converted
thousands of pages of documentation from Interleaf into FrameMaker. Format
conversion can be a real minefield if you don't approach it with great
care. This is caused by the surprisingly low quality of format-conversion
software on the market. For instance, it's typical for some symbols to
be converted incorrectly, and your output to be sprinkled with incorrect
characters. The usual approach to this is to attempt to find every error
by hand. Our approach emphasizes pre-conversion: adjusting the source files
in a systematic way that eliminates the need for proofreading every character
in the output.
Poultry Writing
We have recently learned more about poultry than is good for us. Robert
is a systematic researcher and has surveyed poultry science literature
from 1900 to the present. One result is his shoestring publishing company,
Norton
Creek Press. Another is his readiness to tackle documentation covering
any phase of the poultry industry. If you need a poultry-related
